Tetouan
Tetouan
Tetouan is a unique town with a Spanish flavor. It is located at the foot of the Rif Mountains. Its chief attraction is how little tourist attention it receives, allowing it to maintain much of its feel of authenticity.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site (1997) once served as the capital of the Spanish protectorate, which covered much of northern Morocco, from 1912 to 1956. Combined with its strong ties to Andalusia, it’s difficult to overlook the unique Spanish-Moorish beauty of this locale, with its clean-white buildings and broad boulevards. Aside from its amazing kasbahs and mosques, Tetouan has a magnificent royal palace worth checking out.
