Souss Valley and Anti Atlas Mountains

This region is no doubt one of Morocco’s best kept secrets. It’s much less “touched” than other parts of Morocco in terms of tourism. The Souss Valley and the Anti-Atlas Mountains Region has it all. From coastal towns with nearby argan forests, to amazing fortresses perched on the edges of cliffs. There’s even a small town with mysteriously painted rocks on its outskirs. It’s quite a breathtaking place.

That said, there are less creature comforts in this region. Open Doors Morocco works with several hotels and guest houses with Comfort Level accommodations. But the bulk of accommodations in this region, are more geared toward the Simple end of the spectrum.

If you enjoy trekking, this is an amazing area for that. Camping? That works too! We connect our guests with locals who have grown up in the area and know it well. We can arrange any combination of activities you’d like to try.

Finally, this region has been famous for sugar cultivation since the 17th century. More recently, the argan tree was discovered in the region, prompting UNESCO to declare the region a Biosphere Reserve in 1998. Argan trees are found only in Morocco.

For centuries, the oil of the Argan tree has been a mainstay for the Berber people of the regionUNESCO
