Tizi-n- Test Pass

The Tizi-n-Test mountain pass is at an elevation of 6,867 feet (2,092 meters). It is one of the most spectacular mountain passes in the country, but the drive is certainly not for the faint-hearted. We recommend cross the pass in the hands of a capable Open Doors Morocco host.

The road connects Asni to Taroudant via the High Atlas Mountains. The dramatic landscapes are breathtaking and photo worthy. The road was built by French colonists, and completed in 1932. It was the first road linking Marrakech to the Souss Valley. Before the road was built, it was nearly impossible to control this area of the country.

Don’t be surprised to find Moroccans walking along the endlessly twisting road. You’ll most likely see what we refer to as “walking grass.” This is a sign that the person carrying the grass or alfalfa is returning home from the daily toil in the fields. The alfalfa is for their animals - goats, and sheep. Extreme caution is needed for those choosing to drive themselves, especially if you do not know the area.
