Volubilis

Volubilis was established in the third century BC and was a sort of crossroads of cultures. The Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans were all residents of the city prior to it falling back into the hands of the local Christians in 285. From that time until the 9th century, it was held by the Idrisid Dynasty, the founders of Northern Morocco.

During the French occupation, Volubilis was officially identified as a Roman city. Evacuations revealed mosaic floors, temples, a basilica, aqueduct, baths, and gates, and even brothels.

Today, visitors can walk through the city and explore the ruins. You can hire a guide to walk with you, however there is plenty of decent signage in Arabic, French, and English.
