Ounila Valley

Once part of the main caravan route between sub-Saharan Africa and Marrakech, the Ounila Valley sees very little traffic. This makes it ideal for trekking excursions.

Well trained Barb-Arab horses are available for excursions if you’d like to ride around the gorgeous valley. Lessons are also provided from qualified instructors. Ounila Valley is often visited along with Ait ben Haddou due to its proximity.

I can’t choose one favorite place because all destinations have something different to offer. My favorite city to explore is Paris; I love the culture of Morocco and the waterfalls of St. Lucia. I just can’t choose one.Martha Hunt

Kasbah Telouet is often overlooked in favor of the more popular Ait Benhaddou. In some ways, Kasbah Telouet, is perhaps an even more compelling as a part is still well preserved. On the Inside you’ll see stunning mosaics and ornamental doors. The most modern section of the sprawling kasbah was never fully completed since Morocco gained independence in 1956, during its construction.  The kasbah was owned by the Glaoui Family, and like all the Glaoui Family palaces, it was abandoned immediately upon independence. The French had been responsible for the Glaoui rise to power and had used the warlords to control the Moroccan people, especially in the Atlas Mountains. You can read more about this intriguing history in the book, The Lords of the Atlas
